Elephant

Trunk Hill

Elephant Trunk Hill, Guilin's iconic natural monument. Its striking limestone formation resembles a giant elephant drinking water, with a curved "trunk" dipping into the river to form the poetic Water Moon Cave. When moonlight pierces the arch, the reflection creates an ethereal "moon floating on water"—a scene celebrated in ancient Tang Dynasty poetry and engraved on modern China's 20 RMB note. Visitors can paddle beneath the trunk on bamboo rafts, explore millennium-old cliff inscriptions, or ascend to the Ming-era Puxian Pagoda. This 55-meter karst marvel embodies Guilin's legendary landscape, where nature's sculpture and human history intertwine at dawn mist or dusk glow.
