Located in the western Sichuan Basin, at the core of the Chengdu Plain, Chengdu is one
of China’s ten ancient capitals, one of the first national famous historical and cultural
cities, and the provenance of the ancient Shu civilization (the Jinsha site within its
boundaries boasts a history of 3,000 years). It has served as the seat of local governments
across all dynasties. During the Han Dynasty, Chengdu was one of the country's
five metropolises; in the Tang Dynasty, it was one of China's most developed industrial
and commercial cities; during the Northern Song, it was the second-largest metropolis
after the capital city Bianjing. Moreover, it witnessed the invention of the world's first
paper note, "Jiaozi”. Its scenic spots and historical sites include Dujiangyan, Wuhou
Shrine, Du Fu Thatched Cottage, Jinsha site, Ming Tombs of Prince Shu, Wangjiang
Pavilion, and Qingyang Palace.

Covering an area of 3.07 square kilometers, the Base began with six giant pandas rescued from the wildness, and it has successfully raised the captive population to 230 giant pandas. The Giant Panda Museum, housing an unparalleled collection of valuable materials and rich exhibits, is an excellent destination to learn about giant pandas, get close to nature, sightsee, unwind and have fun. Here, rare and endangered animals such as giant pandas, red pandas and black-necked cranes thrive in leisure.

Renmin Park

Nestled in the bustling heart of Chengdu, Renmin Park is far more than just an urban green space—it’s a living theater of Sichuanese life. Opened in 1911 amid the twilight of the Qing Dynasty, this century-old sanctuary offers a rare glimpse into Chengdu’s soul. The park pulses around its iconic tea houses, where the rhythm of Chengdu’s famed shēnghuó (slow living) unfolds. Beyond tea culture, witness the quirky Matchmaking Corner, where parents post bios seeking partners for unmarried children. At dawn, tai chi practitioners move like shadows near the Monument to the Martyrs, while evenings bring ballroom dancers twirling to vintage tunes.

Kuanzhai Alley

A historical and cultural area in Chengdu, Sichuan, China, Kuanzhai Alley consists of three old streets that run east-west (Kuan Alley, Zhai Alley, and Jing Alley sequentially from north to south) and residential courtyards between them. This area used to be the residence of the Eight Banners during the Qing Dynasty, and is now home to a variety of culture, catering, and recreational stores. As a tourist attraction, Kuanzhai Alley is an epitome of the old Chengdu culture.
